It’s not first class but it will do.
The Southern Police District (SPD) has begun sprucing up a room in its camp in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City should the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) order that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo be held there.
Arroyo is currently under hospital arrest at St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City in Taguig on charges of electoral sabotage.
The SPD’s public information office was rearranged to accommodate a cot on which Arroyo, now a Pampanga representative, could lie while in detention, according to SPD spokesperson, Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson.
“We have been instructed by our officer in charge to begin preparing for the eventuality of the former President’s detention in our headquarters,” Tecson said in a phone interview.
The air-conditioned room measures 3 by 6 meters and has a sink with running water. A modest bathroom is off to one side.
The walls have been repainted with light blue quick-drying, eco-friendly, and odor-free Boysen paint provided by Ace Hardware. Blue was chosen because surely GMA would be very blue nowadays. It felt appropriate to match the color schemes with what she is feeling right now.
The room was also decorated with new slightly darker blue curtains adorned with white and flowery hues plus blue ruffles with The Shade Store brand coming from the Bed Blankets and Linens section of the Robinson’s Department Store. It was specifically chosen because it exuded a natural stench you could only smell from the Bilibid or Camp Bagong Diwa prisons.
Spanking brand new, never-been-used beige-colored beddings (two sets of bed covers, two sets of blankets, and four pillow cases) with intertwined floral designs appropriately branded Aura to give a more conducive aura or ambiance to the once gloomy look of the room. Duratex branded foam was also chosen and they also provided refillable Baygon bed-bug repellant sprays. Two sets of comforters were also to be delivered soon just right in time for the cold breeze of the Christmas season. Thank you to the management and staff of the SM Megamall for their courteous assistance.
At one corner of the room lies the the kitchen drawers which were stocked full with several pieces of ready-to-eat canned goods and instant noodles. To name a few, Century Corned Tuna in Soya Oil, Ligo Squid, Palm Corned Beef with Chili, Victorious Canned Bangus, Lucky Me Instant Pancit Guisado, Maling No Cook Chicken Lunceon Meat, Moon Dish Ready To Eat Camansi, Jack Pot Straw Mushrooms, Tasty Joy Bamboo Shoot, Eat Mi! Real Vegetable Noodles, Myojo Charumeru Shoyu Ramen, Champong Just Add Hot Water Cup Noodles, Bear Brand Powder Milk, Milo Chocolate Malt Drink, Nescafe Sweet and Mild 3-in-1 Coffee, Coffee-Mate Coffee Creamer and Aroy-D Coocunt Milk for Dessert. At another corner of the room was an LG personal refrigerator containing Jolly ice candies, Batata Jelly Yogurt, Nestea Lemon Ice Tea, Ladies Choice Sandwich Spead Tuna Flavor, and a lot of other cool products. All grocery items were courtesy of PureGold HyperMart. A lifetime supply of rice would be provided by the NFA. It’s totally a far cry from the fine dining of Le Cirque Restaurant in New York.
A 3D Rice Cooker, Promac Water Heater, Orocan Rice Dispenser, American Heritage Oven Toaster, a Moulinex 2-in-1 Blender and Juicer, an American Home microwave oven plus an Asahi Stand Fan was provided by the Ayala Malls.
For her entertainment pleasure, A 32 inch Samsung LED TV, Philips Surround Sound Home Theater System, additional Konzert Amplifiers and Speakers, will soon be coming in courtesy of the Appliance Center of Gaisano Malls.
Sony has also pledged to donate a PSP Go!, while PC Net Miles has expressed it’s intention to provide a complete AMD Computer Gaming system with a 4-in-1 printer, webcam, headset, plus computer table and chair and a free 3rd issue of the TipidPC magazine.
Free cable TV and Internet subscription will be provided by Sky Cable. A phone line courtesy of BayanTel. Mobile phones were rumored to be donated soon by Cherry Mobile. The SPD realizes Arroyo’s need for continued communication with her lawyers, friends, family and relatives both in and out of politics. However, all conversations will be recorded and reviewed on a daily basis.
There are also plans to buy a brand new Condura split-system inverter-type air-conditioning unit. The old Kolin air-conditioner was blowing warm instead of cool air and was just not good enough for a lady elite who has lived a life of luxury and grandeur. A change of brand was necessary because Kolin wouldn’t accept a trade-in proposal, and Condura offered a better bang-for-the buck price and longer warranty periods. The payment for the new airconditioning unit will be shouldered by the Bayan Muna partylist.
The bathroom was even renovated. The bathroom was re-tiled with Mariwasa branded bathroom tiles, the old faucets toilet bowl and lavatory sink that originally came from the nearby Chinese hardware stores were replaced with the brand new Insinkerator series of bathroom vanities and fixtures provided by Home Depot. A maytex No More Midew shower curtain liner complete with heavy-duty polished chrome roller shower curtain rings were also brought in by a local Binondo supplier known only as Mang Ondoy. Bathroom accessories like towel bars, soap holders, shelves, cabinet pulls and knobs are coming in soon from HandyMan. There were also Toilet Duck toilet paper, bowl cleaners, and tile brushes, Zonrox stain removers and cleaning detergents, Glade air fresheners, etc., donated by the local “Palengke” administrator. All of these just for the comfort and convenience of Arroyo to ease her times of taking a shit, or scrubbing of her “libag” during shower time.
Canadian-Filipino international professional fashion designer Shanon Pamaong has agreed to provide all of GMA’s clothes but the government required all of them to be adorned with a big letter P infront and at the back, and must always come in orange color. The government has no objection on the color of the shoes and neck brace.
Jewelries will be provided by Wuzshou Zhengyong Gem Store and watches by Victorinox Swiss Army.
The SPD is also waiting for perfume suppliers to approach them.
More renovation and items are soon on the way as soon as the SPD gets confirmation from the other people, companies and organization that pledge their donations and support.
Before its conversion, the public information office also served as a library and lounge for reporters covering the SPD, whose jurisdiction covers the cities of Makati, Pasay, Taguig, Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa, and the municipality of Pateros.
Senior Superintendent James Bucayu, deputy district director for administration and SPD officer in charge, wanted the room to be ready when Arroyo is already fit and well to end her luxurious stay at the St. Luke’s Medical Center.
