What It Really Means

Chief Justice Renato Corona has quickly made a statement as a response to the testimonies in court of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales at the Impeachment Trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. The statements were short but vague for it neither denies nor affirms any truth or falsehood. I made Google Translate do the English to Filipino translation (although a bit rough on some), and also tried to explain what they could probably really mean. If only I could read the mind of the Chief Justice, then it would be fun knowing the truth behind his unexplained wealth.

Official statement of Chief Justice Renato Corona on Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales’ testimony on Monday before the impeachment court:

Renato Corona: The initial testimony of the Honorable Ombudsman is quite unfortunate, if not very malicious.

Cheap Injustice: P.I. yang Ombudsman na yan!

Bago pa man bawiin iyang lahat ng gobyerno.

Quite unfortunate series of events, for Corona, his family and his “friends” who have supported him since the Arroyo days. This time he won’t be saved by using the Basa-Guidote family riches, which he and his wife maliciously swindled from the rightful owners of the said family-owned corporation, as an excuse to why he has plenty of assets.

Renato Corona: I don’t know how she came up with her own mathematical equation.

The only logical computation behind this is : Eighty two dollar accounts in five banks equals one terribly worried Chief Justice plus a dozen nervous Defense team. It doesn’t need a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Renato Corona: She made a hodgepodge out of the accounts, making her numbers chaotic.

Some minus points for the  understandable mistakes of the Ombudsman. The public could have been confused a little bit…but more likely shocked to hear her “revelations” about the numerous dollar accounts.

Renato Corona: The number of accounts alone is at best ridiculous.

A sane man couldn’t possibly had the proper time management skills enough to spread around his riches in several accounts. He must have gotten help from some other individuals. Hhhhmmmm.

Renato Corona: Her PowerPoint diagram is a lantern of lies which only messed up her presentation, contrary to what some believe now as damning evidence.

Cheap Injustice: Langhiyang PowerPoint presentation niya. Daming arrows pointing in and pointing out. Wala namang pointing at me.

This is one time that a visual presentation only made things quite damn complex and confusing thus hurting the evidence. I don’t blame the Ombudsman because she indeed has plenty of information to share.

Renato Corona: Either she does not know what she is talking about, or is purposely misleading the Impeachment Court and the public.

Corona must think that Carpio Morales is just sour-graping because she was not appointed as Chief Justice,…. but she’s as sweet as honey for most people for giving everyone hope for a possible CJ conviction soon.

Renato Corona: Is she even privy to how the AMLC arrived at the bloated numbers?

Comment: Tinapang bangus, tinapang bangus. Masarap kainin ang tinapang bangus.

The Ombudsman is allowed  to get and receive information from the AMLC. So glad AMLC was able to provide the paperworks conveniently in time for the Impeachment trial. Everything in the Aquino government were speedily accomplished, including the rumored break-up between President Noynoy Aquino and Grace Lee.

Renato Corona: We will debunk all her bloated numbers.

The word “debunk” and “bloated” was used so noone could get back at the Chief Justice that he denied existence of the said numerous dollar accounts.

Renato Corona: And once she is proven wrong, I urge her to immediately resign from her post for allowing herself to be used by this Administration and making a laughingstock of “government auditing.”

The Chief Justice was impeached, …and facing conviction. He wants to at least have some sort of  redemption by asking everyone else to resign. Dream On, CJ!

Renato Corona: Indeed, this is another LRA hoax!

More or less lang.

The Chief Justice could get away again by saying this is another hoax just like the several properties, that were reduced to a mere small number afterwards due to lack of evidence, once revealed by the Prosecution.

Well, for me, even if it’s less than the said number, the Chief Justice is still guilty! There is no difference if you killed one or a dozen individuals. In the end you’re still a murderer!

I leave you with this song…..while the number of dollar accounts is still…82

Eighty-two dollar accounts in five banks, Eighty-two dollar accounts.
Take one down and pass it around, Eighty-one dollar accounts in five banks.

Eighty-one dollar accounts in five banks, Eighty-one dollar accounts.
Take one down and pass it around, Eighty-one dollar accounts in five banks.

Eighty dollar accounts in five banks, Eighty dollar accounts.
Take one down and pass it around, Seventy-nine dollar accounts in five banks.

.

.

.

.

.

One account in five banks, One dollar account.
Take one down and pass it around, No more dollar account in five banks.

No more dollar accounts in five banks, no more dollar accounts.
Go to the bank and open some more, Eighty-two dollar accounts in five banks.

I think the Chief Justice has dollar accounts which he should explain.

In fairness to the Ombudsman, she has not really or substantially investigated the accounts so that her disclosures and statements are premature because she lacks competence in ascertaining the accounts. It should be the AMLC and the banks to testify so that all dollar bank accounts in the name of the CJ with details of number of accounts and balance per year from 2004 to 2011 can be established.
The information has bearing on the yearly SALN and on the suspicion of ill-gotten wealth. Unfortunately, the testimony has not established anything but that the CJ has most probably dollar accounts in various banks.

The problem is the Ombudsman testified on something she is not competent to testify on.

If the CJ does not testify he should by all means resign. The more reasonable guess is that he will testify unless he wants to be the laughing stock of the whole country.

Let’s wait for the testimony for the sake of due process. Then the senate-judges
    will decide.
